A Mango Shaped Space

Author: Wendy Mass
Reviewed by: Book Girl’s Mom
As Book Girl would say, this is a really good book! Book Girl herself recommended it to me, so how could it be otherwise? But boy is it sad. Keep your Kleenex handy! The fascinating part of the book is that the main character, Mia, has synesthesia. Sounds, numbers and letters appear in her mind in color. This is Mia’s big secret – she doesn’t want anyone else to know and think she is a “freak.” She doesn’t realize that there are other people like her in the world until one day she happens to meet a little boy who sees in colors too. This meeting, and troubles at school finally force her to tell her family the truth. And to find out what happens next, read the book.
