It is about a girl called Meggie who finds out that her dad can read things and people out of books when he is reading out loud. She finds out that when she was three her dad was reading out loud and read two villains and a fire-eater out of a book and read her mother, and the two family cats in. What could happen with people like that out loose in the world? You have to read the book to find out!

This is a really good book! It is placed a little while after slavery had been abolished, but African Americans are still mistreated. It is about the Logans, an African American family who farms cotton. It is narrated by Cassie, the second-to oldest child. This book really talks about how African Americans lived in that time, and I really learned a lot of history from it. And to find out what happens, read the book!

Halfway to the Sky

This book (recommended to me by Bookgirl) is about Dani who decides to run away from home and hike the Appalachian Trail (more than 2,000 miles!!) all by herself. Her mother comes after her and finds her, but Dani convinces her mom to hike a little further. They meet lots of interesting people and Dani learns a lot about her mom and herself. If you read this book, you'll want to hike the Appalachian Trail too!
